EEC continues dialogue with the CIS Interstate Council

The Eurasian Economic Commission's delegation took part in the 57th meeting of the Interstate Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification (ISC) of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) via videoconferencing.

The meeting was attended by representatives of national bodies for standardization, metrology, conformity assessment and accreditation from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Moldova, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan as well as representatives of the CIS Executive Committee, Bureau for Standards, and the Eurasian Economic Commission.

One of the key topics discussed was the adoption of the draft ISC Development Strategy until 2030 which reflects a common vision on developing the ISC-supervised cooperation directions being harmonized with the CIS development strategy, norms and rules of international organizations in identified activity areas. To implement the Strategy, the ISC will elaborate a comprehensive plan containing its key indicators.

Viktor Nazarenko, Member of the Board - EEC Minister in charge of Technical Regulation, noted the importance of systematic interaction between the EEC and the CIS ISC to solve urgent problems of eliminating technical barriers to mutual trade, strengthening scientific, technological, trade and economic ties. Working out concerted strategic decisions in the spheres of standardization, metrology, conformity assessment and accreditation as well as efficient coordination of elaborating modern interstate standards will ensure both safety and high competitiveness of the EAEU Member States' products, including in international markets.

The meeting participants considered a number of important issues in various activity areas of the ISC, in particular, elaborating the draft Agreement on technical barriers to mutual trade of Participating States of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Agreement on mutual recognition of conformity assessment bodies accreditation as well as creating a regional organization for accreditation within the CIS.

The meeting also approved Amendment No. 1 to the Work Program on Interstate Standardization for 2019-2021. This Amendment compiled 167 draft interstate standardization documents to be elaborated, including with a view to implement mandatory requirements of the EAEU technical regulations.

The Interstate Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification (ISC) of the Commonwealth of Independent States is the CIS intergovernmental body for forming and implementing an agreed policy on standardization, metrology and certification. It was founded in 1992. The meeting of the ISC members is the supreme governing body of the ISC. All countries of the Eurasian Economic Union are the ISC's Participating States.​
