«The Eurasian Week Forum gave ample opportunities to deepen integration processes within the EAEU»


The International Exhibition Forum Eurasian Week which took place on October 22-24 in Yerevan (Armenia) has come to an end. Integration processes at both the state level and in separate EAEU economy sectors, the problems of business and the Union’s digital future were discussed in detail by the representatives of authorities, regulators, market players and experts.

“As of today, the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union have established different formats of interaction between the states being its part. Thanks to experience having been accumulated in the sphere of international cooperation common markets are successfully operating, – noted the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Tigran Sargsyan. – Nevertheless, institutional barriers still exist, competitive ability of economies requires support and the resource potential of the Union needs systematic and sustainable development”.

The goal of the forum was deepening of integration, increasing economic potential and expanding production cooperation of the EAEU countries. Special attention was paid to the development of direct B2B contact network and engagement of third-country companies as potential consumers and investors for the creation of competitive and export-oriented products. Issues of business environment as well as expansion of business relations and development of export potential were in the focus of attention – they were distinguished as a separate panel discussion “Foreign Economic Activity of the EAEU as a Source of Economic Growth and Factor of Sustainability in Business Development”.

The Eurasian Week Forum was opened by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan. He emphasized that the forum could become an excellent opportunity for development of integration processes, would be useful for business establishments of various states.

The global subjects of the plenary meetings at the Eurasian Week were “EAEU Real Economy: Building Capacity Against the Backdrop of Integration” and “Technological Breakthrough and Potential Opportunities of the EAEU Countries”. Strategic issues concerning expansion of the Eurasian continental partnership, the EAEU Digital Agenda, “rebooting” of jewelry industry, tax policy and foreign currency support of foreign economic transactions etc. were addressed.

Some 35 discussion meetings took place during the three days with the representatives from 31 countries having taken part therein. The forum was attended by more than 3 thousand people. The platform became the place where the Heads of governments and concerned ministries of the EAEU States as well as high-ranking officials from the number of Union’s partner countries met. Business events included address of more than 160 spokespersons with the representatives from the USA, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Singapore, Cambodia and other countries among them.

“Two thirds of participants are represented by companies from different countries. Businesses got an opportunity to bring to the notice of authorities the information on existent difficulties, to ask questions and to obtain adequate data on prospects opened for them by the EAEU as well as to establish new business relationships, to participate in the exhibition and the subcontracts exchange. The procurement session presents ten retail networks from Russia, Armenia and Iran, currently about 40 preliminary arrangements have been reached within this session”, –Member of the Board – EEC Minister in charge of Trade Veronika Nikishina commented on the event’s results.

Special emphasis at the forum was placed on the Digital Agenda relevant for all the Union States. In particular, the results of International Competition of Innovative Projects "Eurasian Digital Platforms” were summarized. More than 300 projects participated in the competition. Eventually, the jury panel chose the winners for four nomination categories, one more project won the jury choice award.

A convenient mobile application was developed specially for the participants of the third “Eurasian Week” and the forum guests enabling them to keep up with all the news and events of the summit. The number of its users exceeded 500 people, 275 meetings were appointed through the application.

A grand-scale exhibition was also for the first time held this year with 101 companies having taken part therein. Export-oriented enterprises of the Union presented their products as well as industrial and cooperation opportunities to potential partners including third-country partners for the six key industries: pharmaceuticals and medical equipment, agriculture, jewelry industry, consumer goods industry, production of innovative construction materials, technologies for industry including IT. Large companies such as Rostec and Perspective Technologies Development Center showed their interest to the exhibition.

The exhibition display of the forum was visited by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, Vice Prime Ministers of all the five EAEU participating countries, the Chairman of the EEC Board Tigran Sargsyan, the EEC Minister in charge of Trade Veronika Nikishina. The members of high-level delegation communicated with exhibitors, noted high quality of products and services presented at the Eurasian Week stands. According to the representatives of the Union’s authorities they expect a great number of concluded trade and investment contracts following the results of the exhibition.

Eurasian Week Forum won widespread mass media support. The general information partners of the forum were MIR Inter-Governmental Television and Radio Company, Sputnik and Armenpress information agencies. The official information partners are FederalPress, BelTA and Kazinform. The general radio partner is BusinessFM, the official radio partner is the Public Radio of Armenia Armradio.

Reporters and mass media heads publicizing the EAEU activity were also rewarded during the forum. Among them were the representatives of general and official information partners of the forum: ArmInfo Information Agency, ARKA News Agency, Sputnik Information Agency, the International Information Agency Rossiya Segodnya and MIR Inter-Governmental Television and Radio Company.
