Intergovernmental Council instructed to consider EDB initiative "Traveling without COVID-19"

The issue of sanitary and epidemiological situation and resuming passenger service in the Eurasian Economic Union was considered at the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council held on October 9.

The Heads of Governments of the Union countries heard information from Anna Popova, Chairman of the Council of Heads of Authorized Bodies in the Field of Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare of the Population of the EAEU, and Viktor Nazarenko, EEC Minister in charge of Technical Regulation. They informed on implementing a comprehensive plan in the field of health and sanitary and epidemiological welfare of the population in relation to COVID-19 in the Union countries. 

The Council of Heads was instructed to consider the "Traveling without COVID-19" proposal submitted by the Digital Initiatives Fund of the Eurasian Development Bank and present proposals for its efficient use at the next meeting of the Commission Council.

The parties have also supported the proposal to hold an international conference in St. Petersburg in December 2020 on adopting agreed measures to overcome the consequences of spreading the coronavirus infection and intensifying the economic activity in the Union.

The EAEU countries are already implementing a Comprehensive plan in the field of health and sanitary and epidemiological welfare of the population in relation to COVID-19. This plan includes exchanging information about the epidemiological situation, conducting joint exercises to perfect response measures to infectious disease outbreaks and conducting joint research to develop vaccines and diagnostic test systems.

Sanitary and epidemiological recommendations for organizing green corridor facilities in the EAEU have been elaborated and adopted. Draft Recommendations on determining approaches to resuming international railway service during the spreading of COVID-19 was prepared and considered at the meeting of the Council of the EAEU Chief Sanitary Inspectors. The inclusion of a new COVID-19 form in the Directory of Infectious Diseases requiring measures for sanitary protection of the EAEU customs territory was approved. The revised draft Directory will be submitted by the IT Department for approval by the Commission’s Board.​
