This was announced by the Member of the Board – Minister in charge of Energy and Infrastructure of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Emil Kaikiyev on February 19 in Geneva at the 81st session of the Inland Transport Committee of the UN Economic Commission for Europe.
During this high-level session, Emil Kaikiyev drew attention to the relevance and timeliness of transport automation issues within the overall digital agenda and informed about the work carried out by the EEC to promote digital pilot projects.
He noted that special project office had been created in the Commission. Its portfolio already contains nine projects, including projects on developing an ecosystem of digital transport corridors.
“Within the framework of the Digital Agenda of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), it’s planned to develop rapid and high-speed transport, intelligent transport and navigation systems, digital transportation technologies, unmanned vehicles as well as to create unmanned traffic areas. This will speed up the delivery of goods, reduce cargo weight in transit, increase the mobility of population and the level of its service”, - Emil Kaikiyev noted. “It will result in lower transport costs, higher productivity and better living standards for citizens”.
The Minister also informed about the Commission’s near-term plans regarding the transport policy and stressed that some institutional framework has already been created for the implementation of the Digital Agenda in the EAEU.
Following the results of the meeting, the resolution “Enhancing cooperation, harmonization and integration in the era of transport automation” was adopted, the main direction of which is mutually advantageous cooperation between the UNECE countries.
