EEC and FAO to continue developing cooperation

3/19/2020

Artak Kamalyan, Member of the Board – EEC Minister in charge of Industry and Agriculture, and Oleg Kobyakov, Director of the FAO Liaison Office with the Russian Federation, discussed developing cooperative ties with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) at the Eurasian Economic Commission’s headquarters.

Artak Kamalyan expressed interest in involving FAO experts in the work carried out by the EEC, including on the issues of state regulation of the agricultural market as well as ensuring the traceability of animals and animal products.

“The FAO international experience in assessing the effectiveness of state regulation measures, including its practice of providing subsidies, will enable the EEC to elaborate recommendations for the Union countries to improve current measures of agricultural state support”, - the EEC Minister stated.

Oleg Kobyakov has informed the meeting attendees about the annual development of reviews on food safety and nutrition as well as the FAO objectives in the sphere of sustainable development.

The meeting attendees agreed on developing further cooperation under the Memorandum of Understanding between the EEC and the FAO as well as the 2019-2023 Action Plan for implementing the Memorandum.
