Breeds of EAEU breeding animals to be determined under uniform rules

9/9/2020

After the document comes into force, the breed and pedigree of farm animals will be indicated in the registers of breeding animals of the Eurasian Economic Union Member States and pedigree certificates (passports, certificates) taking into account the unified concepts and calculations.

"Adopting the Regulation will ensure excluding discrepancies and establishing a single procedure for determining the breed and pedigree of farm animals in the registers of breeding animals and automated systems for managing the Member States’ selection process," noted Artak Kamalyan, Member of the Board - Minister in charge of Industry and Agriculture of the Commission.

The information sources upon which the breed (pedigree) of farm animal is determined, cases where breeding animals are referred to purebred and crossbred stock, the algorithm for determining the breed as well as a list of related (similar genotype) milk and meat-type cattle, pigs, horses, sheep, bees and fish.

The regulatory legal act was developed in accordance with the Treaty on the EAEU and the Agreement on measures aimed at unifying selection and breeding of farm animals within the EAEU signed by the Heads of Governments in October 2019.

Therefore, according to experts, the Board’s decision will harmonize approaches to key aspects of livestock breeding in the Eurasian Economic Union countries and simplify the circulation of pedigree stock in the EAEU.
