Mikhail Myasnikovich following his visit to Armenia: “It is necessary to remove the existing barriers and prevent new ones from emerging”

On February 7, Mikhail Myasnikovich, Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission's Board, paid a visit to Yerevan, where he met with the leadership of the Republic of Armenia.

Mikhail Myasnikovich and Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, addressed the development of integration in the Eurasian Economic Union.

Having congratulated Mikhail Myasnikovich on taking office as Chairman of the EEC Board, Nikol Pashinyan wished him efficient and fruitful work. He expressed confidence that the Eurasian Economic Commission headed by Mikhail Myasnikovich would give a new impetus to cooperation and development of trade and economic ties within the EAEU. 

The Chairman of the EEC Board thanked the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia for supporting his candidacy. Mikhail Myasnikovich declared that his work would justify the trust granted by the leaders of the Union countries.

The meeting participants discussed the Strategic Directions for Developing the Eurasian Economic Integration until 2025, as well as approaches to removing trade barriers, exemptions and restrictions, stimulating investment, and stressed the importance of consistent steps to increase internal trade turnover within the EAEU and form a single energy market.

At the meeting between Mikhail Myasnikovich and Mher Grigoryan, First Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, the interlocutors exchanged views on the opportunities and challenges facing the EAEU.

They emphasized the importance of further harmonizing the Union countries' legislation, removing obstacles to trade and the need to continue working on the creation of common economic mechanisms based on the peculiarities of each State.

Mher Grigoryan congratulated Mikhail Myasnikovich on his appointment as Chairman of the EEC Board, having noted that he was pleased with this appointment entrusted to such an experienced statesman.

In turn, Mikhail Myasnikovich expressed gratitude for the ideas expressed by the First Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia on further development of the Union and praised his active participation in the activities of the EEC Council.

During the meetings between Mikhail Myasnikovich, Armen Sarkissian, President of the Republic of Armenia, and Ararat Mirzoyan, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, new approaches to the EAEU development, strategic directions for developing the Eurasian economic integration, and the elimination of trade obstacles in the common Union market were also discussed.

“I am very pleased with the results of my visit to Armenia,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said at a meeting with reporters following the negotiations with the Armenian leadership. "We paid a lot of attention to removing barriers. And, most importantly, we talked about how to prevent new ones from emerging.”​
