On April 5, the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission extended until September 30, 2021 the period of stay within the Eurasian Economic Union's customs territory for cars and other vehicles temporarily imported by individuals for personal use. According to Oleg Pankratov, Minister in charge of Customs Cooperation, the period of stay has been extended because measures to prevent and avert spreading COVID-19 coronavirus infection and border crossing restrictions will remain in effect after March 31, 2021.

Thus, the citizens having temporarily imported cars and other machinery are exempt, until September 30 this year, from the obligation to return them from the EAEU.

The decision also applies to the citizens which have arrived from Kaliningrad Region on their own cars having undergone customs clearance on preferential terms and cannot come back home.

Oleg Pankratov has noted that this decision is consistent with the World Customs Organization's recommendations on work amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, published for customs administrations.

Moreover, the EEC Council suspended until September 30, 2021 an 18-month term for preferential duty-free import of personal assets in the EAEU customs territory by foreign citizens having acquired the status of a person moved to the EAEU for permanent residence, a refugee, or a forced migrant.
