Inclusive and sustainable development
According to the article 4 of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic
Union (EAEU), one of the main objectives of the Union is “to create proper
conditions for sustainable economic development of the Member States in order
to improve the living standards of their population”. Meanwhile, the necessity
to ensure sustainable development has been reflected by the UN 2030 Sustainable
Development Agenda.
According to the research by the Eurasian Economic Commission
(Commission), the EAEU Member States progress in the achievement of the UN
Sustainable Development Goals is more profound in the spheres and sectors of
the economy that are included on the Eurasian integration agenda and are
subject to the supranational regulation. Despite the fact that the Commission’s
authorities are restricted, they cover a significant part of the UN Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) targets.
Inter alia, coordinated macroeconomic policy and the freedom of goods, services, labour and capital circulation contribute to the Member States progress in poverty elimination, sustainable economic growth provision, and best practices sharing. Common sanitary, phytosanitary and technical requirements spur the EAEU developing economies inclusion into international trade, here including that on the agricultural markets.
Considering that the EAEU is an international organization of regional economic integration, the Commission pays specific attention to the implementation of the UN SDG 8 urging, among other things, to ensure inclusive growth.
In order to contribute to the provision of the EAEU Member States sustainable and inclusive economic, the Macroeconomic Policy Department implements:
- Analysis of inclusive growth in the EAEU and globally, here including the enhancement of inclusive
growth assessment methodology;
- EAEU Member States sustainable development indicators monitoring;
- The monitoring of the EAEU Member States progress in SDGs implementation and the evaluation of the integration impact;
- Research studies aiming at revealing and developing the spheres and technologies spurring SDGs achievement.
